Huge Robot Spider in Liverpool

Article by Max Hawkins

Those with arachnophobia will certainly have been attempting to get away fast this morning from Liverpool’s Lime Street station as a 50 foot spider clung to an old city block in the city. The spiders, built by French company La Machine, weighs 37 tonnes and apparently has 50 axes of movement, which are controlled by 12 people who operate the device whilst on it. But why?

Apparently this whole debacle is part of a five-day “piece of street theatre” to celebrate the city as Capital of Culture. The spider will go to other places of the town to undoubtedly confuse and scare a lot more people over the next couple of days, and is believed to “wake up” on Friday. However, the spider certainly is a great idea to attract some tourists (except summer has just gone, why not a bit earlier?).

Built in Nantes, the spider is made from poplar wood and steel (wood, for a natural feel maybe?) and was built in a secret location to stop sneaky eyes seeing what was going on.

Make this so it can be controlled by one person, and I want one.

Religious Guitar Hero provides humour

Article by Max Hawkins

The world is full of religious people. And the trouble with games such as Guitar Hero, is a lot of the songs are about hell or death or something along those lines that probably don’t bode well with religion. Well, if you are a Christian, then maybe Digital Praise could be the answer (via GameDaily).

They have developed a Guitar Hero clone, including a controller much the same as the real Guitar Hero one, as well as a full game. The real deal comes in with the 52 God-friendly songs from well-known (or maybe not) artists such “Flyleaf, Petra, Whitecross, Newsboys, Skillet and others.”. Yes my friends, this is Guitar Praise: Solid Rock.

If there is anyone out there who listens to the latest Christian Rock our there, then this is a must have game for this year.

OK, this might not sound exciting for some people, but I am sure for those families steering clear of the nasty ol’ songs in Guitar Hero, Guitar Praise with it’s family-friendly content might be something to consider. It’s not going cheap though, costing $100 for the single guitar pack, with an additional guitar setting you back a further $70. You’ve got some time to save up though before it’s September 25th release, when it will be available for Mac and PC.

I think I will just stick with my normal Guitar Hero for now.

Alarm Clock Wristband wakes you up silently

Article by Max Hawkins

I know I am a heavy sleeper. Once I am off, it takes a loud alarm clock to get me up again. Currently, I have an Alarm which beeps quicker and quicker as it goes along. And it doesn’t work, because I have got used to it. So now I am using my iPhone as an alarm to get me up, which I actually seem to be able to react to. In the extreme cases, I have my computer set to Rick Roll me at any given time. Which is very annoying, and makes you get up.

Gizmodo noticed this cool Alarm Clock over at Yanko Design, which features seperate wristbands that vibrate at a given time to wake you up, whilst making no sound. When you want to snooze it, you can just shake your wrist to make it stop, However, as you snooze more and more, you have to shake it harder to kill the vibration, hopefullly getting you up.

The clock can also be programed so that the wristbands all go off at different times, so nobody gets stuck outside the bathroom while fighting the tiredness.

Over 9000 Internet meme strikes back

Article by Max Hawkins

To be honest with you, I am not sure where “IT”S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!111″ came from, probably from the murky depths of /b/ on 4chan. But it can effect any place of the internet with a mere mention of something that is over 9000 whatever’s. A classic example is this article by the Telegraph on a tree that is over 9000 year’s old. The title is “World’s oldest living tree over 9,000 years old”. Perfect to attract anyone who want’s to get in on a piece of the action. As if Digg comments weren’t bad enough, at least it had some relevance to the story.

It\'s over 9000!!!!11111

Bearing in mind this article was posted back in April, there have been numerous posts already in August. There were some well made out comments at the bottom though, before the memes took hold.

Never before has such an intelligence drop in one place been witnessed. I ROFL’d.

You know when you are too bored

Article by Max Hawkins

Nothing REALLY interesting happening today, so here is some crazy video of a guy hammering out classical music on his four telephones, amazingly fast and in near perfect tune. Well that last bit is maybe a slight lie, but this is still a very amusing video all the same.

More real news tomorrow. Hopefully.
